recent National FFA Convention. The Loranger chapter was awarded the National
Chapter Award. The Award consists of the chapter’s Program of Activities (POA),
which is made up of fifteen projects the chapter had during the school year.
There are three areas that make up the POA. They are Student, Chapter, and
Community, each with five projects of their own.
In April, Chapter President David Bailey, Vice President Katie Stover,
Treasurer Bailey Reycraft, and Reporter Jessica Spedale presented a PowerPoint
presentation on the Chapter’s POA. A panel of judges then decided on a ranking for the
State level. In June, at State Convention, they received third best chapter
in the state of Louisiana. Once at the convention center in Indianapolis,
David Bailey and Katie Stover walked across the stage during the second general
session to receive a plaque from the National FFA Organization commemorating
the chapter for their hard work.
Because there was plenty of free time, chapter members visited
several museums and attractions during the week with the ten other schools that they
traveled with. On Tuesday morning, they toured the Corvette Plant in Bowling Green,
Kentucky and later in the day they visited the Louisville Slugger Factory in Louisville,
Kentucky. Arriving in Indianapolis around seven in the evening Tuesday,
members woke up Wednesday morning and went downtown to the RCA Dome where
the Indianapolis Colts play. This is where the National Career Show was held
as well as workshops and an FFA Mall where members could

purchase FFA merchandise.
That afternoon, they attended the Opening Session of the 80th National
FFA Convention. Here they listened to the musical talents of the National FFA Choir and Band.
Thursday was a much unexpected day of excitement. After touring the
Indianapolis Speedway, the chapter received the National Chapter Award. While returning
to the buses, David Bailey was able to get seventeen free tickets from RFD-TV so
the chapter could attend a Beach Boys concert with guest singer John Stamos, who played
Uncle Jesse on Full House. Friday afternoon, several members found an Ice Skating Rink
downtown and had a blast. That evening, they spent time doing all the homework for
the school week. They departed for home Saturday morning at 8:00 and returned
to Loranger around midnight Sunday morning. Many thanks go to Mrs. Maria Kinney
and Mr. Clayton Cutrer for being the chaperones for the trip. We literally
could not have gone without them.
