WOLF CAMP 2008
Wolves committed to moving “4-ward” in 2008.
Loranger football makes a new beginning.
POPLARVILE, MS—According many numerologist, eight is the number representing new beginnings and
the Loranger Wolves are looking for just that in 2008. A year ago just before leaving for
camp the team received news that Thomas Baham, a junior starting wide receiver, had
contracted a rare blood

disease. Almost a year later just a few weeks before
returning to camp this year, they lost their teammate and friend who passed away on July 4.
“This team has been through so much in the last year,” said Loranger head
coach Sam Messina. “A year ago on the first day of our summer camp we got word that Thomas
(Baham) was sick. We fought through it the whole season. Often right before a game one or
two of our players would get a text message that this or that was happening with Thomas
and it was a challenge emotionally.”
The courageous battle waged by Thomas ended just 25 days before the
team was set to report to camp for four days of workouts at Pearl River Community College
in Poplarville, Ms. The normal sense of excitement and anticipation of the start of
a new football season was tempered by the passing of this talented teammate and a friend.
“We talked about it the first night of camp, and those of us who knew
and loved Thomas know that he would want his teammates to move forward and enjoy playing
the game that he loved. As a team, we are committed to moving forward. We are going
to coach hard, play hard and do all the things we can do to prepare and not to talk
so much about wins and losses but to be committed to just moving forward.
You can remember what happened in the past, but you can’t remain focused
on the past. You have to move forward. We are focused on doing the best we
can to get better and if we can get better in everything we do, then
the wins and losses will take care of themselves,” continued Messina.
Loranger will open practice at home August 11 and will host the annual
Tangelina Jamboree Friday, August 29 and a JV Jamboree on Saturday, August 30.
