The Loranger Junior High Wolves complete perfect season with 36-12 win over Kentwood Roos.
LORANGER—The Loranger Junior High Wolves routed the Kentwood Roos 36-12
to claim the Tangipahoa Parish Single A Championship in middle school
football action Tuesday night. The victory completed a perfect 9-0 season for the Wolves.

post a 30-0 shutout after just two
quarters. Quarterback BJ Rainey connected twice with Cody Navarro for
touchdowns and once for a two-point conversion. The rushing tandem
of Lee Roy Booth and Hunter Hughes paced the Wolves’ rushing attack.
Booth had 49 yards on eight carries and a two-yard touchdown run,
while Hughes had 87 yards on 10 carries and a pair of touchdown runs.
Hughes also had a fumble recovery. Mark Cox set up two scores with a 21-yard kickoff return
and a 37-yard interception return.
The Wolves opened the game starting at their 42 yard line and
needed just six plays to reach the end zone. Quarterback BJ Rainey opened the
drive with a 13-yard pass to Brennan Catalano and capped it off with an 11-yard
touchdown pass to Cody Navarro. The try for two failed but Loranger led 6-0
with 8:17 remaining in the first.
Loranger used the element of surprise on the ensuing kickoff
converting an onside kick recovered by Hughes. However, despite good field position
at the Kentwood 47, the drive stalled after a penalty and incomplete pass.
The Wolves defense created the next score forcing a
safety on Kentwood’s next possession. Backed up at the 21 yard line,
Loranger’s Hughes and Catalano tackled Kentwood running back for
back-to-back losses leading to a safety on third down. The Wolves
led 8-0 with 3:50 left in the first.
Mark Cox returned the Roos’ kick 21 yards to the Kentwood
25 to set up the Wolves next score. Four plays later Booth rumbled in for the
score from two yards out. Rainey hit Toney for three-yard strike for two
more and Loranger led 16-0 with 2:38 left in the second quarter.
Cox again put the Wolves in scoring position intercepting
a Kentwood pass and returning it 37 yards to the Loranger 48. Eight plays later
Hughes cashed in the

Roos’ turnover rushing six yards for the score. The try for
two failed but Loranger led 22-0 at the 5:29 mark of the second quarter.
The Wolves forced a punt on Kentwood’s ensuing possession
and took over at the Roos’ 40. Loranger needed just six plays scoring on a Rainey
nine-yard pass to Navarro with just 50 second left in the half. Hughes scrambled
around the right side for two and the Wolves took a commanding 30-0 lead at the half.
The Roos would get on the board late in the third quarter
scoring on a nine-yard pass from Davante Brown to Jarvis Diamond. The try
for two failed, but the Roos were on the board with 2:28 left in the third.
Loranger answered on their next possession marching
56 yards in seven plays. Hughes did the honors scoring from two yards
out with 1:11 showing in the third. The two-point conversion failed and the Wolves led 36-6.
Kentwood’s Jared Pruitt scored the only points of the
final quarter rushing 15 yards for a touchdown to cap a 66-yard drive that took just seven plays. The try for two failed.
