COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS, GRANTS & LOANS
There are many sources of financial assistance for college.
One should obtain a copy of the catalog for the desired university to obtain information
about the many avenues to obtaining help in that university–from scholarships to grants.
Students are urged to consult with their guidance counselor (Ms. Glenda Jones,
985-878-8140) when they have questions.
Opportunities for scholarships are extensive.
Students and parents need to research possibilities for themselves, and excellent
sources with which to begin are the Internet, universities under consideration, and
community and government organizations. Also, student volunteerism, civic-mindedness,
and other factors demonstrating student leadership, involvement, and cooperativeness
frequently result in a student’s being nominated for scholarships.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Available Only to Loranger High School Students
Students should enter the ninth grade planning for their
academic futures. It is never too early to begin earning high averages and learning
about scholarships. However, toward the end of their junior year and with the advent
of their senior year, seniors should seriously begin searching for scholarship
opportunities. There are many avenues through which to do this, such as seek
the assistance of their guidance counselor, search the Internet, and read the
manuals from various universities. Seniors apply for these scholarships
in late April or early May. Scholarships applications are available in the
high school counselor’s office.
Another great source of funding for college is government grants
and loans. With lower interest rates remaining the trend and the opportunity to lock in a
low rates, the
Federal Student Aid Program is a viable option for many.
